Learn Spanish in Monteverde
Monteverde is one of the most magnificent and world-renowned wildlife refuges in the tropics, and the Monteverde Rain Forest is a remarkable area to visit and see. There are many opportunities for exploration of this area for tourists, visitors and those attending Spanish schools. In Monteverde the rainforest and the cloud forest reserve take the center of attention, but there are lots of opportunities for hiking, adventures and other fun activities. The town of Monteverde itself is composed of several hotels, resorts and a Quaker meeting house. There are several excellent restaurants and bakeries in Monteverde. The Cloud Forest Reserve is different from a rain forest, and is a privately operated non-profit type of reserve. The cloud forest is where the elevation of the land is so high that the trees are actually growing within the clouds, providing a completely unique type of forest. There are actually several different types of ecosystems within the Monteverde Rainforest area, each with their own unique type of animals, plants and insects. For those that like hiking, the opportunity to hike on mapped trails through the rainforest is a wonderful option. Often the Spanish schools in Monteverde offer day trips or even weekend retreats around this amazing location. For those attending one of the Spanish schools in Monteverde and with a slightly more adventurous spirit, there are horseback rides of varying lengths, from a few hours to several days. These rides tour the rainforest with stops along the way for hiking and meals. There are also 4x4 and ATV tours possible on some of the privately owned sections of the refuge. A great way to see the cloud forest is to go on one of the Canopy Tours which incorporate zip lines, suspension bridges and trails that allow participants to actually swing through the canopy of the rainforest on a series of zip lines. The rider is suspended in a safety harness and gets to see the rainforest from a top down view!
Rafting is another popular weekend activity for those attending one of the Spanish schools in Monteverde and surrounding areas. Rafting is usually only done in the dry season, which runs from November through to April. May through October is considered to be the rainy season and often the rivers are too dangerous for novice rafters at this time of year. When learning a second language at one of the Spanish schools in Monteverde be sure to leave time to visit the rainforest more than once - you'll want to return often.
